Renowned artist Jean Schlumberger left an everlasting mark on the world of jewelry, creating stunning pieces that reflected unparalleled beauty and creativity. Born into a prominent French textile family, Schlumberger's early artistic inclinations led him to Paris in the 19th century.

In the late 1930s, he became a sought-after jeweler in Paris, catching the attention of fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli. His artistic prowess was manifested in imaginative buttons for Schiaparelli's collections. In 1956, he began the legendary collaboration with Tiffany & Co., which marked a pivotal moment in his career.
Schlumberger's creativity knew no bounds; his sketches on ultra-thin paper displayed a sculptural quality. His distinctive use of paillonné enamel, a 19th-century enameling technique, produced vibrant and intricate designs in 18-karat yellow gold, placing him among the finest jewelry designers.

The partnership with Tiffany & Co. resulted in iconic pieces, such as the Ribbon Rosette necklace with the Tiffany yellow diamond. Notable figures, including President John F. Kennedy and his wife Jackie, were adorned with Schlumberger's extraordinary creations, such as the timeless Croisillon bracelets.
Honored with the Coty Prize in 1958 and a Chevalier of the National Order of Merit in 1977, Schlumberger's brilliance extended beyond jewelry. His posthumous retrospective at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in 1995 was a rare honor for a jewelry designer.
Bird on a Rock: Iconic Shine
Among Schlumberger's most iconic designs is the Bird on a Rock clip, which features a charming bird perched on a rock. Inspired by her fascination with nature, botanical gardens, and exotic species, this piece captures the essence of Schlumberger's artistic vision. Crafted in 18k yellow gold, diamonds, sapphires, and emeralds, the clip pays tribute to her love of the whimsical and the extraordinary. Each gemstone Schlumberger used was assigned a custom design.

The Bird on a Rock, initially set with the renowned Tiffany yellow diamond, remained a symbol of her artistic retrospective for 17 years. Crafted using a special casting technique, a Tiffany tradition since 1867, the brooch showcases the meticulous craftsmanship that distinguishes Schlumberger's creations. Available in three styles (oval, cushion, and emerald) and a variety of gemstone colors, the Bird on a Rock brooch is a versatile statement for both male and female customers. It explores the unique ways customers can wear this iconic piece, as it symbolizes the extraordinary talent and lasting influence of Jean Schlumberger's creative legacy.
